THE FOOTBALL

From a patchwork of century-old amateur teams with names such as KB and AB, the last decade has seen the city’s football dominated by two clubs: FC Kobenhaven and Brondby.

Brondby are the most populist – and most successful. Based at the 30,000 Park Alle in Glostrup in the west of town, they only fill it for the visit of well-connected FCK, who own the national stadium, Parken, a 41,500 all-seater. For the big match, buy tickets through the BilletNet system at post offices.

THE CITY

Denmark’s capital is too confident and calm to be a football madhouse. Sure, the locals like their football, drinking in moderation in the bars of Vesterbro and Norrebro while the Swedes invade and misbehave.

Tourists are spoilt for choice. Buy a Copenhagen Card and you can ride the amusements in Tivoli Gardens, see Viking treasures in the National Museum, watch the changing of the guard at the Amalienborg Palace and tour the Carlsberg Brewery.

Don't miss
Head for Tivoli Gardens and its amusements, concerts, restaurants, beer gardens and Xmas market.
